THE NORTH & EAST SIDE
Explore the quieter sides of Shasta.
North Gate, Brewer Creek and the Whaleback deserve more than an empty corner of the map. Compare agency trail sections, examine their terrain and distinguish summer approaches from forest snow routes.
Source review: · Our editorial approach
Hiking sections from agency geometry
Fourteen source sections from seven named agency corridors supplement the community map: North Gate, Brewer Creek, Inconstance, Bolam, Whitney Falls, Clear Creek and West Haight Mountain. These are inventory sections, not fourteen complete new hikes. Some can overlap a community-mapped path.
Source vertices and section gaps remain separate. Elevation and grade are DEM estimates. Agency lines have not been joined to the walking planner, and annual inventory management dates do not establish current opening or maintenance.

Northgate approach guide
A lower approach and an upper glacier or summit route require different decisions.
Brewer Creek guide
Read approach, loose-terrain and seasonal access notes before travel.
The Whaleback: summit, launch and snow route
The summit pin, the road-accessed flying launch and the agency Whaleback SNOW line identify different things. No maintained hiking alignment to the summit was verified in this data import. Use the guide to compare sources rather than treating the snow line as a summer footpath.
The Whaleback place guide
Summit reference, approach limitations, hazards and steward links.
Whaleback and the forest snow network
Twenty-one agency SNOW inventory sections. Current use permissions, grooming, patrol and access remain unverified.
Read the source before you go
Road gates, fire orders, winter restrictions, storms, rockfall and washouts can change the trip. An expired closure does not certify reopening. Read the exact order and its map; vehicle restrictions are not automatically pedestrian closures.
