Start with the trailhead and your destination
The PCTA route sheet places Parks Creek Trailhead at 41.3431, −122.5379. The Mount Shasta Trail Association describes an approach using the PCT, upper Deadfall trail and a separate Mount Eddy summit spur. Choose a lake or summit objective before departure; a source section’s mileage is not the complete out-and-back distance.
Road access, remaining snow and gate status are unverified here. Check with the land manager before driving, carry a map independently of phone service and leave a turnaround plan.

Historic geometry can contain real gaps
Upper Deadfall 05W04 and historic Sisson-Callahan 06W06 are distinct trails despite confusing map names. The local trail association reports missing historic tread north of Bear Creek Cabin. The imported historic inventory is visibly marked with that advisory; it is not presented as a maintained through-route.
Use care at North Fork river crossings: high water can make a ford impassable. Turn back rather than entering dangerous flow. The PCT and Mount Eddy summit spur prohibit bicycles; other trails require their own use checks.
Read the terrain beyond the gradient
High terrain can bring exposure, loose footing, snow, ice, wind and lightning. A gentle computed grade cannot assess those hazards or today’s conditions. Watch for changing weather and turn around early.
USFS inventory sections retain their original vertices and gaps. They may overlap community mapping and are kept out of the walking planner. Profiles are DEM estimates in the source line’s direction. Annual inventory dates do not prove a trail or road is open.
